The Corporation is also mandated with the responsibility of supporting the Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector through supply of raw materials, provision of consultancy services and identification of markets for their products.
The incorporation of the Corporation can be traced back to the Session Paper No. 1 of 1965 on “African Socialism and its application to planning in Kenya” which recognized the importance of Trade and Industry in economic development.
The Corporation distributes in bulk a wide range of high-quality products. Among the products distributed include sugar, rice, human salts, fertilizers, seeds, toilet papers, stationeries, lime, cement, plastic tanks, milk cans & buckets, Pipes and Pipe fittings, drilling equipment, chaff cutters, paints, iron sheets, barbed wires, tiles, ordinary nails, chicken wires, chain links, wheelbarrows, shovels and all magadi soda products. We also supply various products/raw materials manufactured by MSMEs.
The corporation has aligned its network to the county government so as to effectively take advantage of opportunities presented by the new constitution and is currently considering extending its distribution network to all major towns in Kenya by appointing agents to distribute goods using its trade name.
These agents will link with the outlets as the collection points. This will not only ensure that the products are available to the consumers in remote areas at an affordable price, but will also create employment opportunities, which is one of Kenya’s biggest development challenges.
